About a year and a half ago, Apple announced that it was opening a new website. They called this site the App Store as it allowed iPhone and iPod Touch users to download apps or applications directly to their digital devices. These applications are really nothing more than mini computer programmes that can often be purchased for only a few pounds.
Believe it or not, the app store currently offers more than five thousand free applications that can be downloaded at any time, with no obligation. But as popular as they may be, free apps are not what is driving the incredible sales on the site. Yes, we said incredible. Recently, Apple announced that users have downloaded more than one billion apps from their site. That is more than a billion downloads in only eighteen months.
Why is the App Store so popular? Well, one of the reasons is their incredibly large catalogue, which currently offers somewhere in the neighbourhood of one hundred thousands apps. These applications range from mobile games to general programmes to office apps.
If you have never downloaded one from the App Store, an office app is typically a more complicated and expensive application that allows users to perform important tasks when they are away from their computers. The average office app lets users do anything and everything from transferring important files to clients to scanning documents.
