The Growing Popularity of App Store

About a year and a half ago, Apple announced that it was opening a new website. They called this site the App Store as it allowed iPhone and iPod Touch users to download apps or applications directly to their digital devices. These applications are really nothing more than mini computer programmes that can often be purchased for only a few pounds.

Believe it or not, the app store currently offers more than five thousand free applications that can be downloaded at any time, with no obligation. But as popular as they may be, free apps are not what is driving the incredible sales on the site. Yes, we said incredible. Recently, Apple announced that users have downloaded more than one billion apps from their site. That is more than a billion downloads in only eighteen months.

Why is the App Store so popular? Well, one of the reasons is their incredibly large catalogue, which currently offers somewhere in the neighbourhood of one hundred thousands apps. These applications range from mobile games to general programmes to office apps. (more...)

App Videos for New Users

With dozens of Smartphone makers releasing thousands of apps each and every month, finding a few good apps can be like locating that proverbial needle in the haystack. It is not necessarily that most apps are of low quality, but rather that they cannot fulfill their basic functions.

What we mean is that locating the right app for the right action can be difficult. After all, most smartphone makers have catalogues that consist of thousands of different apps. iPhone alone has more than 100,000 apps available for download on their Apps Store.

As you might guess, with that number of available apps, finding the right one can be a chore. That is why app videos for new users are so popular these days. If you have never seen them, app videos are often shown on app review sites, many of which can be accessed free of charge. (more...)

New iPad Apps

In spite of a few mixed reviews, the Apple iPad is a big hit. According to the company, the iPad sold over one million units in just 28 days! That is less than half the time it took the iPod to sell seven figures.

For those of you who have somehow missed the promotional blitz, the Apple iPad is an ultra thin computer that is shaped like a tablet, which means that there is no keypad and no flip screen. Instead, the iPad is operated by touch screen. And since the iPad was designed for internet browsing, this feature actually makes it much faster and more efficient than a computer with a mouse and a keypad.

Who uses the iPad? The target demographic for the new device is undoubtedly the younger generation. The iPad excels at browsing, media consumption and gaming, all of which appeal to younger users. The iPad is also compatible with Apple's enormous apps catalogue, which means that users can enjoy the same applications they use on their iPhones. What are some popular iPad apps ? (more...)

What Exactly Are Cell Phone Apps?

Everybody knows what a phone is, a device used to make and receive calls. A cell phone is its modern cousin, and it can do more than just calls, it can send texts as well. A Smartphone is the current version of a cell phone and is capable of doing much much more than just calls and texts! Cell phone apps are all the rage today and every phone has compatibility, so what are cell phone apps?

Apps are just short for applications. Applications are small programmes or bits of data that enable cell phones to perform complex tasks. There are gaming apps, information related apps, app tutorials and apps related to almost everything.

Apps vary according to brand and of course, the operating system that it was designed to work on as well. So for example, Blackberry apps are designed for use on Blackberry phones, but Android apps are designed to work on Google Android OS and phones that use it, irrespective of the brand of the phone. The Difference Between the Sexes Choice of Movies

A ritual nearly all couples will be familiar with is a trip to the cinema. Catching a new release has become a staple of date night through the ages (or at least the recent past). For men spending an evening watching a blockbuster release with the girlfriend constitutes a romantic evening. The best part of which, is that they do not have to put up with constant yapping.

For women the date night spent at the cinema is a pretty bog standard affair but in most cases they are just happy that the boyfriend/husband has put the thought into arranging a night out. Though they would love a bit of variety on date night most girlfriends/wives are resigned to expecting nothing better than a night at the movies.

However, where the girls put their foot down is in regards to the type of film that they're going to watch. Instead of his choice of the latest action movie starring Bruce Willis in Deathblow 14, the chosen film is more than likely to be a funny date movie. (more...)

Find the Best Free Apps on freeapps.net

With a catalogue of over one hundred thousand apps and daily downloads of around five million, Apple is almost solely responsible for the growth of the apps industry. And while competition is increasing, ninety-five percent of mobile app sales were downloaded from the App Store in 2009.

From the company's large and growing catalogue, a respectable percentage can be downloaded free of charge. These apps are appropriately referred to as free apps and they are available at the App Store. There's just one problem, few of these applications are actually worth the time it takes to download them.

Not surprisingly, many of the free applications are free for a reason. They are often quite basic and not particularly useful. In fact, most of them are simple mobile games. However, there are a few helpful applications to be found, especially in the education apps group. And websites like freeapps.net help people find the best free applications. (more...)

The Astonishing Growth of the Apps Store

Apple Inc. introduced its famous Apps Store in the hopes that it would increase iPhone Sales. But it did much more than that. In its first year of operation, the Apps Store became the first Smartphone maker to report one billion downloads. Six month later it reported another billion downloads. Three months after that they announced another billion downloads.

In spite of these incredible sales statics, the company maintains that apps are nothing more than a sideline business. But recent revenue reports all but invalidate these claims. According to the latest figures, Apple is earning a thirty percent commission on every application users download from its site. That means that the company is bringing in at least a half a billion pounds on apps each year.

At present, Apps account for nearly five percent of the company’s annual revenues. This percentage has quadrupled since the Apps Store opened in 2007. It also makes the Apps Store the company's most successful website. Its predecessor, the iTunes Store, took twice as long to post half the profit. (more...)

Find All the Best Free Apps with the Help of Review Sites

With daily downloads of over ten million, the App Store is the first stop for Smartphone owners who need new apps. In fact, their dominance in the industry comes dangerously close to being considered a monopoly. In 2009, ninety-five percent of all mobile app sales were downloaded from the Apps Store.

How did they create an industry? Well, in truth, they did not. iPhone apps were not the first applications, not even close. The Blackberry was on the market eight years before the iPhone. But Apple somehow saw something that other companies had missed. They saw that users were willing to pay for applications.

In its first year alone, the App Store introduced more than twenty-five thousand apps. This gave them a catalogue that was larger than all of the other Smartphone makers combined. They would go on to double this number for each of the next two years. Today, the App Store catalogue features over one-hundred thousand applications and all the best free apps. (more...)

iPhone the New Love Doctor!

For example, there is an iPhone app that is designed to play only romantic songs from all over the world. So if it is some perfect date background music you're looking for, this app is where your search stops! (more...)

Downloading Android Apps

One of the best things about buying a smartphone, and particularly an Android operating system based one, is the amount of applications which are available for them. There is literally something for everyone, from the most serious to the most fun and everything in between.

Whilst there are apps which need to be paid for, there are also hundreds of free android apps which are equally as good, if not better. They are simple to download, by either visiting the Android marketplace or visiting a website specialising in them.

The Android system is a more open one than its closest rival Apple. Whilst Apple was arguably the field leader and innovator, this has now changed. More developers are willing to write apps for Android, and indeed, it has recently surpassed Apple in popularity. Apples closed system neither encourages developers or users to experiment with their devices and what is possible. (more...)

Pushing the Boundaries

The development of technology over the last twenty years has been nothing short of phenomenal, especially if one is to look at mobile phones. From the huge, clunky hand held devices of the late eighties, which often had a huge battery pack attached, to today's modern smartphones the difference between the two is amazing.

Perhaps one of the more interesting things to have happened is that the concept of the phone has been taken far beyond its original vision of just a device to communicate with other people by voice. Text and video messaging have become the norm nowadays, although their usefulness stretches far beyond that.

In fact, the phones with their free smartphone apps seem to resemble more a communicator device seen on Star Trek! It is possible to view maps, take the temperature, take photos, translate languages and much more all from the one gadget. (more...)

Is a Phone Package Always Cheaper?

Many people decide to buy a package when choosing their new mobile phone, that is they sign up for a handset and a sim and pay a set amount each month. This means that they do not have to buy a phone separately and many people consider that it works out cheaper than having to buy a phone, even with so many cheap sim only deals on the market.

But does it really work out cheaper this way? Some of the sim only deals actually work out very cheap per month, with talk-time minutes and texts included just as with the full package deals, so it is worth checking out some of the sim only offers currently available on the market.

With phone included deals you of course have to pay for the phone in the monthly charge and while it can be a great way to pay for your phone over instalments, these types of deals can be expensive. (more...)
